The most important thing to keep in mind when preparing to buy your first safe child car seats for your baby is that you will need to buy a number of car seats relative to the growth of your child.

1. The first step to keep your child safe on the road is the choice of a car seat that works for your baby’s age and weight. You should use your baby’s height, weight and age and chhose an appropriate car seat for use.

You should use a rear-facing car seat until your baby reaches about 20 pounds in weight.

Convertible car seats are used facing the rear until your baby is at least 1 year of age and weighs at least 20 pounds. The convertible car seat can be used forward facing upto the weight limit listed in the car seat instructions.

From the height perspective, for rear facing car seats, the baby’s head should be an inch or more below the top of the car seat. For front-facing seats, the top of the baby’s ears must be below the top of the seat.

Once your toddler is at least four years old and weighs at least 40 lbs, booster car seats will help the vehicle seat belt fit better.

2. The second step in ensuring your child’s safety on the road is to make sure that the car seat fits your vehicle. It is essential to find a car seat that can be installed tightly, with the proper angle and less than an inch of side-to-side wiggle.

Always check the manual to make sure you can install and use the car seat as it is intended.

3. The third step in ensuring your child’s safety on the road is to ensure that the car seat you buy has gone through severe crash tests.

All infant car seats sold in the U.S. pass the same federal crash tests. Often car seats have extra features which make them easier to install correctly, such as built-in locking clips or non-twisting straps.

To ensure that your baby is kept safe in the car, you should use a car seat with the most crash protection for as long as it fits your baby. The weight limits are much higher on many rear-facing and forward facing car seats.

You should also look for higher forward-facing weight limits on 5-point harness seats, and keep your toddler in a booster seat as long as possible after he or she outgrows a regular car seat.

Finally, before you purchase any car seat, you should check whether the car seat has been recalled by the manufacturer for any reason.Always follow these instructions to make sure that you purchase the safest child car seat for your baby.

Buying baby strollers and car seats for our children is not as easy as it was for our parents.  Our parents did not have the wide selection of these items that we do to choose from as there were only a few makers.  There is such a wide variety these days that it can be very confusing on which models and makes to buy.  This article will give you some tips for choosing the baby strollers and car seats that are the best for you and your child.

The most crucial thing that you need to consider when it comes to selecting hese items is safety.  This applies to baby strollers and car seats.  Above all else comes the safety of our children. Make sure that any of the baby strollers and car seats that you are considering are safe and have been thoroughly tested.  The baby strollers should have an automatic lock that engages when you unfold it to keep the stroller from folding back up with your child sitting in it. The car seat needs to meet or exceed they safety standards that the govenrment has set forth for these items.

Baby Strollers

You should consider these few things when it comes to strollers. First you should see how easy it is to fold and unfold.  There are many models that allow you to open and close the strollers with one hand, which is great when the other hand is glued to your child.  The next item is the brakes, make sure that they operate easily.  There are a good number of models that have lever brakes on the back wheel that are simple to engage with a flip of your foot.  Third, you should think about the handle.  Lots of strollers made thse days have little tray that you can put your items in, like shopping bags, your cell phone, cup holders and a place to hold your purse.  Finally, you should consider the material that the frame is made from. Is the stroller going to be strong enough to hold up under use or is it simply to flimsy for regular wear and tear.  Strollers that are made from stronger materials like steel and aluminum will fare much better than flimsier materials like plastic.

Car Seats

Choosing the car seat for your child is more about what will work best for you and your child, other than the initial safety requirements.  Manufacturers develop car seats for all of the developmental stages of your childs growth.  Seats that are “rear facing”, are made for children that are 20 poounds or less and less than a year old.  Forward-facing car seats are for ages one year to four and 20 to 40 pounds. Booster-type car seats are for ages 4 to 8, up to four foot nine inches in height.  After that, your child can sit in the seat with the normal buckle.  For an all around seat that is designed for nearly all of the developmental stages, you will want to go with a style known as the convertible car seat.

In the end, you need to make sure that the car seat and baby stroller that you choose for your child is something that is easy to use for you, while providing safety and comfort for your child.  It should never be a difficult task to make use of your baby stroller or car seat.
